Polar provides billing infrastructure for usage-based products. It records events such as tokens, API calls, compute, storage, agent runs, and GPU time, then aggregates them into customer meters for invoicing. It supports recurring subscriptions, trials, upgrades, proration, prepaid credits, automatic top-ups, and hosted checkout. As merchant of record, Polar handles payment processing, sales-tax collection and remittance, fraud, refunds, and chargebacks, then sends payouts to the seller. It also connects payment revenue with inference costs to help teams understand margins and unit economics.
What you can do
Polar executes an automated four-attempt payment recovery retry schedule over 21 days when a renewal charge fails before revoking benefits.
Polar supports prepaid credit balances that deduct per event, allowing customers to prepay for usage with optional fallback to metered rates.
Polar provides a hosted Customer Portal where subscribers can update payment methods, download invoices, change plans, manage seats, and cancel.
Polar acts as the merchant of record and reseller in over 100 markets, managing payments, sales tax, fraud, refunds, and chargebacks.
